My friend wants to come and stay here in Barbados with me for a year. But i heard immigration will only give 9 months max. Is that true? And under what conditions would she be able to stay here for longer?

  1. Interesting question -  My g/f is moving here  ( Barbados) for 11 months and they never told her anything...she couldn't stay the full 12 months because of course to be a tourist you have to stay at least 24 hrs but under a yr...maybe ur friend can apply for some sort of visa, student visa, work permit....have a doctor recommend a vacation for a yr and while she's here seek getting status in the country.....or call the immigration office unless shes from Guyana.....And like vybes said she can have extensions but she's only allowed 3

  2. Your friend will be lucky if they give her 6 months let alone 9 or more upon entry to Barbados. However, she can apply for an extension at immigration at a cast of $50-$100 BDS for the application fee. I would definitely go that route...

  3. Well because Barbados offers unemployment benefits, nationalised health care, retirement benefits, free education upto and through the tertiary level etc. the government wouldn't want people moving to Barbados and then becoming a "tax" on the nation.  Therefore in many cases immigration may allow your friend to extend their stay as long as you both can prove you have the financial means to support your friend fully while they're in Barbados without them getting a salary anywhere.  It also depends on the country your friend comes from and what kind of diplomatic ties they have with Barbados...
