I want to live in New-York, but I can't afford living in Manhattan.

Living in Brooklyn is a good idea then? Hows brooklyn? is that safe place? is that a fun place or all the fun is in NYC?

Living in Brooklyn is the best option for someone who can't afford living in NYC and still want to live in New-York?

  1. You need to come visit and check all this out for yourself.

-- Brooklyn is not distinct from NYC.  Brooklyn and Manhattan are two of the five boroughs within NYC.

-- Brooklyn is huge.  If it were an independent city, it would be the 4th largest in the US.  It includes safe neighborhoods, unsafe neighborhoods, rich areas, poor areas, a lot of "fun" stuff, and some boring suburban stretches.

-- As you alluded, Brooklyn is a popular option for people who want to live in the NYC area without paying extremely high Manhattan rents or mortgages.  There are other popular options also, including Queens and parts of New Jersey.

-- Within Brooklyn, there is a huge range in housing prices...areas that are close to Manhattan, with good transportation access, lots of bars/restaurants/shops/etc. in the neighborhood, and historic/pretty buildings tend to be almost as expensive as Manhattan, while the cheaper areas are often much further out with less transit access, less for twentysomethings to do, and in some cases crime-ridden neighborhoods.  Look at apartment listings on Craigslist to get a better sense.
