I'm considering doing my student teaching in Ireland. I was wondering what it's really like in Ireland, not just what people thing of the place. What is there to do, eat, what the people are like. Things like that. Thanks in advance to all responses!

  2. My sister actually just did her student teaching over in Ireland! She LOVED it!!!!  She taught in a private, international school....many of the kids had moved due to their parents jobs as ambassadors or stuff like that.  She wants to move back there for a yr to teach.  I went to visit her there and it is a beautiful country.

There are lots of different tours you can through Dublin as well as long weekend trips. The country is small, so it's easy to see places.

The people are so friendly.  The pubs are great, everyone comes up and talks to you and wants to find out more about you. A lot of them play traditional Irish music.   It's a really nice environment, quite different than what we are used to living in the NYC area.  My sister stayed with a family in the suburbs of Dublin right along the coast....so pretty.  They have trains and buses, so it's easy enough to get around.

The food is pretty much the same as the U.S.  Shopping definitely lacks though.  A lot of the stores seemed very old-fashioned to me.....but there are a few cute, trendy boutiques in Dublin.

    I would definitely recommend it!

  3. You never said where you are from, which country should I to compare Ireland too?

Anyway, its a modern European country, with plenty of restaurants, shops etc.  Our main social scene revolves around the pub, concerts, gigs, (or maybe that's just mine, LOL)  I think we're still naturally a friendly people by comparison.   Its relaxed place to be, unless your stuck in the terrible traffic.

  4. We just got back from a vacation there and I was kinda scouting out what it would be like to live there. It depends on where you are.

If you like night life and parties and stuff, go to either Galway or Dublin.

If you like old-style things (like horses and carts) go to the Aran Islands.

If you like rocks, sea, and boats, go to the coast.

All the shops/buisinesses are only open from about 8:30 or 9am to 5pm, after that the pubs open and there is usually music and funness in the pubs. You have to be 18 to drink.

The people depend on where you are. There are a lot of father/son buisnesses and, when we went, we hardly saw any teen girls- only adult women with elderly women and small children.

There's a lot of touristy places, and a lot of small towns. There is only Coke products and sometimes Dr. Pepper (which tastes a lot differently than the USA so watch out) or Pepsi cola.

In about every resteraunt there will be seafood chowder, homemade carrot soup, brown bread, and a Toasted Special (ham, cheese, tomato, and onion- REALLY good)

I had a really good time and would move there if I could.

    Good luck!

    -Molly

  6. Ireland is a small country with a population of about 4million.

Irish  people are friendly ,welcoming, with less crime compare to other countrys in the world.Apart from eating, ireland is noted for drinking alcohol. Most music concert takes place in dublin (state capital) from time to time. However, weather may be dissapointing,i.e no clear cut weather, mosly wet but no weather disasters.
