Is Mumbai a good place to live? Those of you who've been there, how did you like it? Is it hard for a white person out there? Can you get by with English? Are the prices high?

  1. it is the best city for an outsider, whether you are black, white or brown no one cares, only thing it is terrifically crowded.climate also very nice year around20*c to 35*,english is common language though a little bit of hindi will help you.sukriya.acha,kya hai.kaise ho and so on,best of luck

  2. i only went there for a trip, and it seems like an okay place. I don't know how well you will be able to fit in, because it is one of the busiest cities. But because of that, you will do fine speaking English. I also think that the Indian vendors might try to rip you off because you are English, so you should bargain a little.

  3. I live in mumbai, and rest assured, you will enjoy ur stay. try staying somewhere around Bandra.

  4. I have been there for alomost 20 yrs..first of all when u will go there u will find life is very much fast and full of struggle, but latter on u'll find lots and lots of opportunities .....its costly in terms of house rent and all, but food is very much cheap there...u can check it at http://www.cheapflightstomumbai.com

  5. Mumbai can get overwhelming - it is crowded, it is dirty, it is super fast paced... but to get an opportunity to live in Mumbai.. wow! It will be one h**l of a ride on the roller coaster of your life, and I can guarantee this - you will love it!

It is a cosmopolitan city, of course you will stand out as a white, but then no one will bother you.. just condition yourself to the poverty, begging on the streets and get street savvy with bargaining. Be well informed about the taxi/auto fares. You can get by with English easily... however, not everyone speaks english fluently (eg, taxi drivers, bus drivers), so speak slowly and try to neutralize your accent.

It is an expensive city, but you should know where to go.. whether to live, eat, shop... look up some Mumbai specific blogs and they should be helpful.

From my own experience, I've lived in different cities in Canada, USA and India... each was great, but Mumbai was Mumbai!

    Go live the experience!

  6. u say that mumbai is good place to live "jo good or beautyful hoti hai usme prices bhi high hoti hai.

mumbai is very fast city, plz u choose that city jo b***h ki ho like banglore, surat, gandhidham ok

  7. Yes, it is an awesome city, and yes, you can get all your jobs and chores done with English. Bombay is a modern progressive city, in a progressive country called as India.

Yiou will find pubs, restaurants theatres, drama workshops, underground clubs and every kind of haunt that you are used to in your home.

For a white person it is safe, but like all Indians, people in Bombay too are sensitive about their religion, culture and beliefs. never mock them.

Accommodation is exp, comparable to NYC, food is not, but you can survive if you have about $15,00-20000 savings initially, though you need to start working . do u intend to settle there forever or going for a short visit ?-what s your purpose of visitng India?

  8. if u want to live in mumbai, live in new bombay it is much nicer , and more peaceful. a lot of the property is ocean front and its cool and breezy. u can definetly get by on english, because it practically all they speak there. it will be a bit tougher for a white person, being that they know ur an american they will try to rip u off in the markets. the prices are relatively higher according to india's standards, but dirt cheap compared to american. the exchchange rate is awsome
