I came here to visit but I really would like to stay. I know I can't get a visa if I don't have a passport. I was driven over here, can I get my US passport here in Canada?

How do I get my work visa? I've tried websites but its just the run-a-round.

  1. Get a PASSPORT.

We Canadians love having visitors and all, but if you want to steal our jobs, health care and land, please do so LEGALLY.

  2. You have to apply to work  from outside Canada. A US passport doesn't give you any rights there.

  3. You can apply for an extension of your visitors visa and be allowed to stay there for another 6 months. By the time that is up you will have lived with your boyfriend for one year, and fulfilled the requirement for him to sponsor you as a common law partner. Please don't try and work during the time you are visiting, it can get you in a lot of trouble.

Once you meet the requirements (put on your application for extension of your visitors that the reason you are staying is so that you can meet the requirements to file for Permanent Residency via common law), and I suggest getting the paperwork ready to go so the second you have been living with him for a year, you can send it out. I suggest filing as thought you are outside Canada, and using your boyfriends Canadian address. It will take on average, 4-6 months, compared to 1 year plus. Make sure and re-new your visitor visa yet again when you send out the paperwork, and send a copy of the receipt showing that you did in fact send in the paperwork.

You will need to get your passport, and that can be done at any American embassy. You can find a list of the consulates here http://www.amcits.com/usa_consulates_can... and the information needed for getting your passport for the first time.

    Good luck!

  4. You can't stay simply because you want to stay.  You may need to go back to the US first and do the process the right way.  However, there are options.  How long have you been in Canada now?  If you have been here less than six months you can apply to extend your stay, and then you are here legally until they respond.

Your boyfriend can sponsor you to stay in Canada.  By sponsoring you he agrees to support you and take care of your medical bills until you have been approved for permanent residency.  You can apply for permanent residency now since you have been together for three years.   Do not work here until you have been approved as a permanent resident.  If you work illegally and get caught it will seriously jeopardize your chances of being approved for immigraiton.

The Canadian immigration site really is the one you need.  It has all the information you need.  Best of luck with your plans.
