  1. Lucky you.  I've spent about a month there over three trips and I still could go back.  Use the Metro.  It's great feels very Euro and cheap.  The Sevres pottery factory on the outskirts as well as Versailles can be visited by Metro.  Get the latest Michelin guide.  It's all you need.  It has walking routes mapped out as well as everything you need to know.  With a month it would be easy to take some short train trips for the day.  Here's one that I highly recommend.  The finest chateau in France, the prototype for Versailles, called Vaux le Vicomte, forty miles south of Paris from Gare Sud, outside of the city of Melun. It's a perfect day trip and there is a shuttle bus from the station. You will not regret it

  2. If you haven't done it already, get to the nearest book store and get a guide book for Paris... Fodors's Paris or something like it.  Then, when you get into the Airport in Paris, go to the nearest TABAC... there is one on the mezzanine floor, just after you exit customs and immigration... and get the Map of Paris... for roads and Metros.

  3. 1) Have dinner with an icon of the Hippie era.

Jim Haynes is one of the founders of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and founder of the London Traverse Theatre Company. He started Suck, the sexual freedom newspaper, in Amsterdam in 1969 and taught Media Studies and Sexual Politics at the University of Paris 8.

He throws a dinner party every Sunday night. The crowd will include college professors, artists, the occasional rock star of famous actor. Give him a phone call or send him an email and you'll be invited. Details are on his website at: http://www.jim-haynes.com/index.htm There's good food and an open bar and everyone kicks in 20 euros to cover expenses.

Jim is also free with good advice and places to go while in Paris so make this a first thing to do.

    2) Go Rollerskating

Every Friday night except when there is rain, the City of Paris and the Paris Rollerskating Association organize a skate thru the streets of Paris from about 10 PM till 1 AM.

    3) Become a member of the least exclusive club in the world

The Café Metropole Club meets every Thursday after noon. membership is very exclusive...you have to show up. details can be found here: http://www.metropoleparis.com/aclub.html  The people who show up are a coolection of expatriates and tourists. A good place to meet some nice people and get some good advice about current events.

    4) Become a comedian

...or at least a comedian's assistant. Head down to the Centre Pompidou any sunny afternoon and you'll find guys doing big, elaborate comedy routines which involve audience participation. When they call for volunteers, step up. Don't worry if you don't speak French, they are used to working with English speaking tourists. Its slapstick and funny and will make a great story to tell.
