I'm going to an Italian Language School (Scuola Leonardo da Vinci) in Roma in July. I was just wondering if there were any special events happening at this time or things I need to know about?

Grazie.

  1. One of the big events is the Palio in Siena on July 2nd http://www.ilpalio.org/palioenglish.htm

The 3rd Saturday in July, there's Il Redentore. Spectacular fireworks over the lagoon in front of the Doge's Palace. Other than Carnevale, this is the biggest event in Venice: http://www.orient-express.com/web/ocip/o...

The Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia is world-class: http://www.umbriajazz.com/canale.asp

    Actually in Rome:

there's a Jazz Fest in July and November. The website still has the info for the last one, but should be updated before the festival: http://www.romajazzfestival.it/home.html

Parco della Musica has open air concerts. Lou Reed and Joe Cocker were there last year.

The Cornetto Free Music Festival in Piazza del Popolo

There's also the Festa de'Noantri in the Trastevere quarter.

You won't have any problem finding tons of interesting things to do.

  2. Apart from the excellent info that Conley gave you (above), remember that July in Rome can be very, very hot so be prepared. I know the Scuola Leonardo da Vinci and it's in quite a built up area; the rooms inside are fairly small with low ceilings and if the air-conditioning breaks down (as it may do!) have one of those little hand-held, battey-operated fans handy!

Apart from that, buon viaggio e studia bene!!
