Any thoughts on the Murcia area - and Mar Menor ? Positive or negative regarding quality of life, living conditions for an expat (living permanently away from home country) family, is it really touristy ? Any comments really - I may be posted there later this year so I'm interested to hear what people have to say about the place.

  1. You do get beer swilling chip eaters in the Mar Menor area of Murcia, but, in Puerto de Mazarron a bit further down the Murcian coast there is not a chip shop or english bar to be seen. I know because I have an apartment there for rental. I t is very popular with the Spanish for beach holidays and very cheap because there is no tourism there as such. Just great, clean ,empty beaches and spanish restaurants.

  2. La Manga is quite a nice place specially to live all year round. It is slightly touristy but it has very beautiful villages in near by. It is also near 2 large cities which have   anything you might want and the airport very close to. It is just half an hour from Cartagena which is a beautiful city founded by the Carthaginians and same from Murcia. They call Murcia the orchard of Spain. La Manga is a strip of land that has on one side the mar menor which is a semi closed small, warm and beautiful sea and on the other side of the streep the mediterranean. It is great for sailing and underwater fishing. Food is good and specially seafood and arroz a banda , similar to Paella plus many local specialties. It is quite calm all year except in summer when there is quite a lot of action and fun

    Enjoy it
