  1. Hi Amit,

apartments are usually unfurnished in Germany, which may go so far as to exclude even the most basic kitchen installations. But if you are sharing a place with someone, you will be better off, as it is likely going to be equipped already, and easier to get (not trying to scare you, but German landlords are usually old hags who speak no foreign languages and are suspicious of anyone who doesn't speak the local dialect, let alone German). An apartment all for yourself should run between 300 and 600 EUR per month, plus about EUR 150 to 200 for heat and power and power and garbage collection and lift maintenance if applicable. Food has gone up a lot lately, you should have about EUR 200 a month minimum for food alone. Driving is quite a bill, too, you're looking at about EUR 1,40 a litre of petrol, cars are cheap to buy (EUR 1000 will buy a perfectly good Mitsubishi Colt if you like), but there are taxes based on emission controls which can go up to EUR 600 a year depending on how "dirty" your car is, and another 600 or so for insurance per year.

  2. Stadthagen has a website Stadthagen.de you might want to have a look, it's not in english but you can contact them under Kontakt.

Furnished apartments are not the norm, usually you will have to buy even kitchen cabinets and a fridge. But you may be lucky since Stadthagen is not that big. Landlords are governed by the Landkreis which would be Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) and whatever the charges are for Garbage removal, water in and out etc, will get divided by the tenants of the building. You might be able to find a furnished room where you can have kitchen facilities available but most of the time you have to share the bathroom,. Those would be less expensive. Most people are very nice over there, especially in a smaller town.  A 1 bedroom apartment will probably cost you $300 Euros cold, which means you have to pay for heat and hydro.

I am from Hannover  and Stadthagen lies between Minden and Hannover.

Good Luck and hopefully you can enjoy the Christmas markets over there. Go and visit.
