What is living in Montreal like for an English speaking family? Is it a nice city? Lots of traffic? How far is the airport from downtown?

  1. Traffic can be bad but not as bad as many other North American cities. Living in the suburbs can be a nightmare because of traffic (I don't drive but that's what I've been told) Also the roads are not the best, mostly because of very cold temperatures in winter, and little budget from the city dedicated to fixing roads.

The city is nice, specially for young adults, but it is not the cleanest. The Old Montreal and the Quartier International (touristic and financial areas) and really clean, nice and beautiful, but the rest of the city has its problems dealing with littering, graffiti, vandalism, homeless people and voluntarily homeless punk kids. The downtown is not nearly as family oriented as the average North American city, but it is quite fun for young adults.

The best area for an English speaking family is Westmount. It is a really nice area, and you have everything you'd need there. Westmount is an upper class neighborhood, and many of the problems I mentioned before don't apply to it. It is also very close to downtown.

Montreal is really cold in winter and really hot in summer. Spring and Fall are very short. Montreal is safe, as is any other city in Canada.

Maybe if you tell us what kind of things you look for in a city, or the ages of your family members, I could help you further.

  2. I think you've helped quite enough, don't you?

With all this ranting and raving about littering, graffiti, homeless folks (didn't you forget to mention dirty streetlights' bulbs and cigarette butts everywhere?) and whatever else you got to b*tch and moan about, this guy is never come and move to Montreal - thanks to you!

Yeah, Westmount is nice if you can afford to live there but so is TMR - don't you think?

The distance between Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport and downtown Montreal?

    Will the following link suffice?

    Hope this helps!
