  1. i live in quin roo and we came with 3000 us and that was 3 months ago.we party every night but we rented an apartment for 350 a month and paid it up a few months now we party like rock stars every day....

  2. Uh, no. If you have $10,000 US you CAN live it up. For a month or two. There are indeed hotels in smaller towns for $5, but not what you are used to. And one Margarita can cost over $3 so no, what you are hearing are stories that are 15 to 20 years old.

  3. No, you can't stay at a "good" hotel for $5US Just like where you are from, hotels are different prices depending on amenities and location. There are places you can stay in Mexico for $5 a night (and less) but they would not be places you would go or even be able to find, especially if you can't speak Spanish. There are some backpacker 'Hostels' who charge 8 to 10 dollars a night for a bed in a dorm room with 10 or 12 beds.Beer is about a dollar a bottle in the less touristed areas of Mexico and a decent but not fancy, four course Mexican meal can run as little as 3 to 5 dollars.

In Cabo,Cancun,or any of the places you may have heard of  it is much more expensive. In fact ,if you checked into  a nice place in Cancun your $10,000 would be gone in about a month, plus or minus a day or two.

  4. Living in the U.S. you will hear many things that are exaggerated or simply not true about Mexico.

Having lived, worked and traveled in Mexico,Central and South America for the last 20 years I would agree with the first two answers. The other answer from "deviant" just doesn't compute. There are in fact houses, casitas, trojes rooms, and apartments for rent in Quintana Roo as well as other places all over Mexico for $350 and less.I certainly don't question that part.

What doesn't make sense to me is if you start with  $3000.00 and you have been there for three months and we assume there are no deposits and that all the utilities are paid by the landlord and you don't have to buy a 5 gallon jug of purified water every couple of days for drinking and cooking like most everyone else in Mexico does and then we further assume that you don't have to buy any gasoline for a car or a bottle of LP gas for hot water or cooking and you also never need to go anywhere in a taxi or ride a bus or go to a movie or pay a cell phone bill during those three months and you can wash your clothes in a near by river or lake with a bar of soap etc. then it makes it very easy to do the math and it would look something like this:

    $3000.00 minus $350.00 X 3 months rent =$1050.00

    $3000.00 minus $1050 = leaves a balance of $1950.00

    $1950.00 divided by 90 days (3 months) = $ 21.67 per day.

Call me loco, but I think buying enough food, toilet paper, beer and Cuban cigars to party like a rock star might be a stretch on less than twenty-two bucks a day even in Mexico....And assuming that the above figures are anywhere close to accurate any rock star lifestyle that did exist should be very close to over about now.

This is exactly how many of the  insane stories you hear about Mexico get started. The only thing missing today on Yahoo Answers is the story about how the police beat, robbed and kidnapped my best friend. It's true,I swear! I'll tell you all about it tomorrow.
