so in reply to my previous question, i think we have decided on moving to toronto, so if anyone could give me some hints and tips of the city that would be great, especially if you live there.

i have looked at alot of websites on toronto, but i would love to hear what the real toronto is like, by the people who live and work there.

so like the crime, the food, the shopping, night life, things to do, places to see, the best hang outs etc, best places to live, that kind of thing, also the cost of living etc.

any help would be amazing, thank you

xoxo

ps) i live in england and my bf is 21 and im 18, so we are still young and want fun things to do etc.

  1. Well first , congrats on your decision, and like London there is so much to do it hard to describe, I am a former chef and for food it is a top notch place, we have plenty of choices, most of the ones that are popular in the UK, and our places have a variety to like to in England, as for all the other points you raised, it is a normal big city, with its good points and bad, so are in the forefront more, but the subway (tube) here is clean and you pay 1 fare for the whole thing, not like London were there are districts and extended trip fares, both the underground and surface buses are good, we have trolleycars like some of the UK citys.

For entertainment, in the age range you and your BF are in there is plenty from the usual, still some punk and new wave clubs, but anything you want really, shopping is great we have several ethnic district like London, sightseeing is abundant, take the tour buses for the best views, the cost of living is similar to London or larger UK citys, I am a former chef and worked all over Canada and abroad, so I know.

Apartments (flats), are reasonable, but here you sometime pay for the heat or hydro depending on the building, rents can range for a 1 bedroom from $650-1000.00 that all is up to the neighbourhood and type of building, grocerys at our shops/grocery stores is a one stop place, there all inclusive with meat, veg, and all the other things including bathroom products.

I wish you good luck on your new adventure, if you need any more if or help with arrangement let me know through my e-mail contact address.

  2. you're underage so nightclubs and bars are a no-no, at least the good ones.

night life is very very good. better than london - in the sense that there are more clubs than lounges.  check out Muzik, Boulevard Room, C Lounge, This is London, a good website is www.martiniboys.com

cost of living is high compared to montreal per se.  good places to live around your age group is High Park, The Beaches, Yonge-Eglinton, Annex

first thing you'll be amazed of is the amount of asian influence the city has, from food to nightlife to culture. its wonderful.

the summer is excellent with lots of festivals including Taste of THe Danforth, Caribana, Toronto Film Festival (second only to Cannes)

there are no best hang outs, but the "trendiest" places are yorkville, queen/king west.

toronto has 4 professional sports teams :Toronto Raptors, Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Toronto FC Football club.  You'll love any one of these teams, the atmosphere is vibrant

marijuana laws are relaxed, smoking and liquor laws are strict.  toronto overall is a safe city, i would stay away from little mogadishu, jane/finch areas. other than that the crime rate is very very very low, and so low it isnt even comparable to US cities.

transportation is very good. TTC has subways, Trams, busses.  you can also take taxis, rickshaws, and water taxis to get around.  every major club worldwide will have an office, that is guaranteed. feel free to contact me via Yahoo if you want more info. cheers

  3. wonderland..<<big rides,water park

to tell u the truth..theres alot of stuff to do..i just cant name..lol..srry but veryy beutiful city..try visting downtown toronto, theres lots of stuff too do. lots of free tasteing.try going

to eaton centre(downtown) or the Ex(down town) or if u wanna be on tv.try going on MOD.its free(downtown)

  4. I moved here when i was 18, im now 20.

The night life - not a ton until your 19, which is soon, so you'll be fine, tons of great clubs all different styles, bars and tons of stuff going on downtown all the time.

Crime - depends where you live, most areas are fine to the average person, more of a gang type deal.. i'm sure youll be fine

Food - sooo many different restaurants, from small ones to big chains, lots of different cultures too!

Things to do - Wonderland (Amusment park), Bloor and Queen Street (Shopping), Eatons Center and Yorkville (Malls), Much of Demand (Free show on tv), MTV (free shows on tv), exploring, Little Italy, China Town, St Lawrence Market, Kensington market.. etc etc

Places to live - i live right downtown and love it, south toronto, downtown, and south east toronto are nice.

Cost of living - a nice apartment is around 1000-2000 per month.. although, no car is needed in toronto, more of a hassle, metro pass is 109/month, can get anywhere in the city with that.

  5. go sight seeing

  6. Toronto is a great city. Rent is expensive but jobs are available. Streetcars, metro, great busing, baseball, football, hockey, attraction parks, great shopping and a super downtown. Boating, cruises, bars and restaurants and a very ethnic community, nice helpful people. There is so much to do that I go back every year on Queen Street where my family grew up. Love the lake. Great schools, museums, University, Toronto is number 1 in my book.
