I am really wanting to travel somewhere eventually, once i have some money saved and i am considering ireland. I don't have any degrees or schooling along those lines, i just want to go for a couple months or more and work at a restaraunt or something of the nature. I just don't know if that is a good idea, or an easy thing to do (getting a Visa and what not). I would love it if someone could give me some advice, and alittle info on the weather there too! :) I just want to travel SO bad!!

  1. I was born and bred in Ireland and I'd have to say to you consider going somewhere else!  The weather is Not good and it is very expensive to live in!  Also restaurants don't really pay that well.  In saying all that though Ireland is a beautiful country with plenty of places to go!  No mater where you are in Ireland your never more than an hour away from the beach!  The people are very friendly also, maybe if you get a chance and come over for a week-end first it would be a better idea... Anyways best of luck whatever you decide! :-)

  2. I think going to Ireland would be a rewarding experience.  Also it is probably still safer than most countries.  So let me get you stared.

You need a passport.  On a passport you can visit Ireland for up to six months.  But you need to know someone to vouch for you so what i recommend is to go for a month and learn the lay of the land.

You cannot go and find work in Ireland.  You have to be hired by a place in Ireland and that job applies for your work visa.

A cheap way to go is Hostels.  There are some really nice cheap hostels in Ireland.

So this is my suggestion.  I am going to give you a friend of mind and the town is a nice town and you can help do some volunteer work to get you started on your dream of visiting Ireland.

Tullamore is a town about an hour from Dublin.  I know the residents and I have a friend who coordinates volunteer work for the castle.

Contact them about work for the summer and tell her your desire.  There is a hostel nearby but sometimes you can bunk at the castle for free in exhange for working.

You are walking distance from town and the train station which can take you to Dublin and Galway and some other points.

In the summertime its great because it is light from about 4am to 10pm so you can go somewhere for the day and be home before nightfall.

So start saving your money (in the EURO rate) so what I mean is if you are going to save 500 EURO is 324.00 in Dollars.

    Use this http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert.cgi

    This is Charleville Castle site

    http://www.charlevillecastle.com

This is another site that has real info for people traveling to Ireland

    http://www.allthingsshannon.com

They are a work in progress so keep going back because I notice they keep putting new information up all the time instead of letting the site just sit there.

So when you do go and going through customs say that you will be vounteering and where and for a month and the customs will give you a stamp for a month.

Now when you go the second time you will know someone.

Then you can go for up to six months

There are also links to job recruitment in ireland at all things shannon.

Oh the weather is great from April to October 31

  3. No don't come to Ireland, it's too expensive, go to Oz instead, you'd have a ball there.

  4. Ireland is very expensive at the moment, and jobs in restaurants are not that well paid. But come for a few months and have money saved for emergencies and you should be alright.

For visa requirements, best to contact the Irish Embassy or Consulate in your country directly.
