Living room colors ?

I live in a basic trailor right now. My husband and I are just renting and can't afford to do much to it. Our carpet in the living room is a deep green color. It has a real fireplace with white tile around it and a natural color wood mantel. Right now the room is painted a terrible shade of seafoam green. We need help! If you could give me some color schemes for the walls and curtains, that would be great!!

  1. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think "special gray" (# 6277) would go well with the green carpeting. Then gold, silver or green curtains would look good, too.

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

  2. red and cream are really in right now!

cream and one block colour red wall! then accsesories with the red. brown and green are in to, but thats more for bedrooms i think

  3. Depends on what you want the feeling of the room to be...

most likely the seafoam green makes you a little anxious, huh? The deep green carpet is good, deep greens (as long as they don't have a purple or gray undertone) are relaxing and peaceful because they're natural. I'd actually choose a peach, or a faded dark blue/green.

You don't want the walls to be painted too dark, because the combination of dark carpet and dark walls could be kind of suffocating and depressing. You also don't want the colors too match too perfectly... it wold look repetitive, not to mention not very inviting.

Since it's a living room, try faded, warm pastel colors... they give off a homey, inviting, comfortable feeling that makes the mood in the room good.  Also be aware of lighting. Does the room have a lot of windows so that they'll be mostly natural light? Some paint colors that look good in the store will look faded in natural light. Whereas a color that looks good in the store (under their harsh florescent lights) may look too bright and abrasive if your living room is mainly lamp-lit.

Last thing-- stay away from really shiny. That's for the kitchen.

    Good Luck!
