I found a lizard and am trying to figure out what type it is, here are some facts.

About 4.5 inches long.

It has a blue color on it's back, and a little yellow towards the side.

The rest of it is dark gray and the tip of it's tail is like a blackish color.

Please help me try to figure out what kind it is.

  1. It does sounds like a skink. Where have you picked it up?

Is the scales glossy and smooth?

  2. You do realize that it will probably die in your care right? You should release it and go to the pet store AFTER doing ALOT of research. But if you really much know look up common lizards in your area.

  3. its hard to tell by this description i would need to see a picture to tell you.

  4. It would help to know where you found it (like what area of the world...) and if you had some pics that would help too...

Does it have kindof a black and white line around it's neck?  It might be a baby collared lizard (although I don't know if males show their colour yet when they're only that big!).  But send me some pics if you want and I can try to figure it out!

  5. I hope you found it, studied it, and then went about your business.

Hopefully, you do not have the poor thing tossed in a tank, not knowing it's need and cares?

No clue what part of the world you hail from, but in the US it's Federally protected.

Do the right thing, and let the terrified animal go.

If you want one, be adult, research it, set up the habitat, learn its heating, lighting, humidity, dietary needs, and then buy a captive hatched lizard.

Wild caught lizards don't adapt well to captivity (how would you like to go from having the run of 1,000 acres to living entirely in a the space of a shower stall?).  Most die.

Do the right thing.  Let it go.

If you didn't mollest the creature, and this is curiosity?  Try snapping a photo the next time you encounter a creature in its habitat (and at least tell what part of the world you live in).

I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help.
