Lizette Salas finishes inside top 20 at Navistar LPGA Classic 2012
American Lizette Salas performed well at the Navistar LPGA Classic 2012 as she finished tied for the 16th position along with four other players after she carded an overall 278.
Salas was more than happy after she got off to a flying start at Prattville, Alabama, which saw the American golfer shoot an explosive 65 in the opening round.
Having made a solid start in one of the most prestigious Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tournaments, Salas found it easy to keep the momentum going in the next round, but her performance looked
rickety in the final two rounds.
In a roster awash with big stars who were capable enough tear their rivals apart, Salas set foot on the course on Thursday with a completely different approach. She tried to remain patient throughout the four-day
tournament, which helped her finish inside the top 20.
Despite making a good score in the opening round, the American star was seen faltering in last round on Sunday, which saw her card a 74.
Getting off to a shaky start on Sunday, Salas bogeyed the first hole. She parred the next two holes and drained her first birdie on the par-4 fourth hole. She then parred the next five holes on the front nine.
On the back nine, the LPGA titan lost her momentum as all she could do was to register one birdie and three bogeys.
The third round was a little better in terms of scores. Salas carded a 70 on Saturday, but it did not work as most of her nearest rivals boosted their positions in the final two rounds.
“You know, it was kind of a little bit of yesterday, scrambling. I was all over the place today. I had a good bogey on 13, made a couple putts down the stretch. I was still scoring even though my ball striking
wasn't well today, but I just kept calm, kept patient,” Salas said while speaking to the media at the end of the third round.
“You know, my thing was to smile a lot more out there today and just to not to force anything, that was my main thing today, and just play my game. That was my whole strategy for today”.
