Speaking to the media about how she fell in love with golf while growing up in a city known for crime and gangs, the Latina golfer said that it was her father who sparked her interest in the sport.
“My dad was there every step of the way. In high school I played on the boys’ team and I could practice on the boys’ side or on the girls’ side,” the young prodigy said.
She went on to say that she never lost hope and always believed in herself. Salas said that playing on the practice range with her father keeping an eye on proved very beneficial for her, and she quickly gained confidence.
