Lizette Salas happy with Founders Cup performance
Lizette Salas, who has been seeking to record a victory at the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, seems to be a in a more comfortable situation than ever before after performing well at the Founders Cup.
Salas was thrilled to join the field of RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup held at Phoenix, as she faced titans like the current world number one Yani Tseng and Paula Creamer.
She played amazingly well, finished tied for 22nd — something she had never expected to achieve in a big event like the Founders Cup.
Her game looked more mature than what she had been performing at the USC a few months back.
Analysts said that Salas’ efforts have paid off to a great extent, but time is tough for her. They said that the upcoming events will demand more hard work than before, as grabbing a spot in major events will also be on her agenda.
Wining $15,230 at Phoenix may not have stunned her fans. However, Salas said that she was happy that she managed to perform better than expectations and this is what kept her in the game.
Now that she has proved her worth in a pro event, she is going to face yet another battle this week — Kia Classic.
The event is slated to take place from March 22-25 at La Costa Resort and Spa, with the participation of top-flight players on the LPGA.
Salas is expected to come face-to-face with the same field as the Founders Cup, as the most of top-ranked players have confirmed their commitment to the $1.7 million tournament.
Salas first rose to fame when she qualified for the LPGA Tour. She said that finding a foothold in the LPGA was her biggest achievement.
In addition to qualifying for the LPGA, Salas also made a name for herself in the All-American event, wining four titles.
Her performance in the event led observers to think that the Azusa resident would soon outclass her peers.
Salas was thankful to her family and associates for giving her the much-needed support in her career.
“I give thanks to my parents, I'm a proud Latina and I'm not scared to play that role. I see how Lorena Ochoa has helped golf grow for women in Mexico and I want to do the same here for Latina girls,” she said.
