Lizette Salas remains inside top 20 in season finale
American Lizette Salas might have been one of the most underrated LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) contenders at the CME Group Titleholders, but she did much better than most of
her rivals had expected.
Salas posted an overall score of 282 to finish tied for the 11th position along with Swedish Caroline Hedwall and South Korean Inbee Park.
Although she only started her rookie year in the just-concluded 2012 season, Salas boasts a solid profile—and a combination of great swing and putting skills that make her stand out among
her peers.
Salas might not have been able to finish the CME Group Titleholders 2012 inside the top 10, but she still rattled most of the contenders in the lineup after she started the tournament with
a 68 in the opening round.
The American star maintained her momentum in the second round as she carded a 71, but failed to do so in the third round on Saturday. She dented her score with a 73 in the third round, but
overall, she was able to remain inside the top 20.
The match was held at The TwinEagles Club, Naples, Florida, which is one of the most prestigious courses in the United States. The weather conditions remained almost calm throughout the four
days, helping players make perfect strokes on the greens and fairways.
Salas displayed a better performance in the final round on Sunday, as she fired a 70 to improve her position from tie-17th to 11th. She parred all the holes on the front
nine. But her game looked much better on the back nine, with three birdies and one bogey on the difficult par-3 12th.
The LPGA star shared her thoughts at the end of the third round on Saturday, saying she is happy with her performance, and putting has improved quite a lot in the past few months.
“I wasn't even trying to shoot low, it just kind of happened, just picking my targets and hitting good shots,” said Salas who recorded only one top-10 finish in the 2012 season.
“I think the putter really was working for me today and hitting a couple bombs out on the tee box kind of helped me, helped that momentum going”.
