Lizzie Simmonds wins Women’s 200m back-stroke title: British Gas ASA National Championships
In the last two swimming events, Lizzie Simmonds and Lewis Smith won the gold medals in the Women’s 200m back-stroke and Men’s 400m Individual Medley finals respectively, at the 2011 British Gas ASA National Championships, in Sheffield, England.
Initially, Simmonds claimed the golden crown in the Women’s 200m back-stroke race with a winning time of 2 minutes and 07.49 seconds. More fabulously, she broke Shiho Sakai’s previous record of 2 minutes and 07.74 seconds, set earlier this year. Additionally,
Simmonds also booked her place for the FINA World Championships in Shanghai.
Placed second in the Women’s 200m back-stroke final was Rachel Lefley with a victorious time of 2 minutes and 11.99 seconds and Karley Mann wound up third in a time of 2 minutes and 12.50 seconds.
On the other hand, the Men’s 400m Individual Medley title was taken over by Lewis Smith with a winning time of 4 minutes and 16.26 seconds. Her performance also elevated her to 18th place in the international rankings.
Placed second in the respective meet was Thomas Haffield with a genuine time of 4 minutes and 16.53 seconds for his 22nd spot in the world rankings, while Matthew Allison snared bronze medal after she touched the finishing wall and ended her swim
in a time of 4 minutes and 22.07 seconds.
In another meet, Chris Walker Hebborn won the golden crown in the Men’s 100m back-stroke final with a winning time of 54.47 seconds. After the race, Walker Hebborn stated, “I have had a good week so far and that felt really good again tonight. This season
has been going very well and I felt absolutely no pressure this evening. I just wanted to win the race and felt comfortable that the time would follow.”
In the Women’s 50m freestyle final, Smith claimed the golden crown after she touched the finishing blockade and ended her swim with a victorious time of 25.46 seconds. In another race, Tadd won the Women’s 100m breast-stroke race with a winning time 1 minute
and 09.14 seconds.
