Lizzys Legend has a legendary run in A2 race at Sheffield
The greyhounds who win the 500m races at the Sheffield Greyhound Stadium have been known to gain legendary status among racing fans.
Lizzys Legend was one of the dogs to gain this lofty honour as he raced to an impressive victory in the first of two A2 races on the schedule on Thursday 25 November.
Lizzys Legend, who was one of two 9-4 joint favourites in this race, had a great start from trap one, surging into the lead at the first bend. He held onto the lead for the remainder of
the race, which allowed him to lay claim on the top spot with a time of 29.70.
Finishing 2 lengths behind him was Wee Prospect (5-1), who began with an early pace, and had every chance to win. He settled for a second-place result after finishing in 29.86.
Castlehill Dec, the other 9-4 joint favourite, was the third-place finisher. He moved slowly away from the pack, and went on to finish 1¾ lengths out of second place in 30.00. Crazy Roo
(4-1) lacked an early pace and bumped first. Despite that, she finished a neck’s length behind Castlehill Dec in 30.02.
Black Anita (9-2) held an early pace and had every chance to take the lead, but she failed to capitalize on her opportunities. As a result, she finished fifth with a time of 30.06, which
placed her a ½ length out of fourth place. Linfit Morley (3-1) moved slowly away and bumped first. This resulted in a loss of 2¼ lengths and a last-place finish in 30.24.
In the second A2 race, Patterdale Rafa (7-2) raced to a first-place finish. Starting from trap five, he ran the perfect race from start to finish, and he finished well with a time of 29.77.
Second place belonged to Russanda Ritz, one of two 5-2 joint favourites in this race. He held an early pace, and from the first bend until near the finish line. His time of 29.78 placed him a head’s length behind the winner.
Sheffield Eagles, the other 5-2 joint favourite, had a clear run, checking in with a time of 29.88 that was 1 ¼ lengths behind Russanda Ritz. Indi Pindi (7-1) crowded first, but finished
a head’s length out of third place in 29.89.
Dazzlem Dinny (3-1) failed to dazzle the crowd with his fifth-place finish. He held an early pace and had a bumped start, and went on to post a time of 29.95 that was ¾ lengths behind
fourth place. Manners Catch (7-2) couldn’t catch up to the rest of the pack after bumping at the starting line and crowding third. His time of 29.98 placed him a neck out of fifth place.
Sheffield Greyhound Stadium will hold its next race meeting on Friday 26 November. The evening begins with an A7 race at 18:38.
