Llagostera Vives/Parra Santonja and Dinara Safina/Agnes Szavay made it to the quarter-finals of the Andalucia Tennis Experience
Fourth seeded Spanish duo of Nuria Llagostera Vives and Arantxa Parra Santonja qualified for the doubles quarter-finals of the Andalucia Tennis Experience at Marbella, Spain, by defeating the pair of Eleni Daniilidou of Greece
and Alexandra Panova of Russia. The Spanish pair took one hour and twenty four minutes to conclude victory at 4-6, 6-2, 10-6, to make it to the round of eight.
Brilliant coordination from the two Spaniards was seen in the contest, recovering from being one set down and winning the match later. A lack of rhythm from Vives and Santonja cost them the opening set but they got their
eye in the game by the next set and wiped off their opponents to seal victory.
Daniilidou and Panova had a terrific start to the game, breaking early in the first set and consolidating their position in the match. They were broken once by Vives and Santonja but a second serve break ensured the opener
to their name at 6-4.
The fourth seeded duo regrouped in the following set and turned the tables over Daniilidou and Panova. The Spaniards held their serve throughout the second set and inflicted two break points to clinch the set convincingly
at 6-2.
Once getting their winning momentum, Vives and Santonja had less difficulty in reeling off the decider. The Spanish pair cruised through the third set and closed victory at 10-6 to book a quarter-final berth at Marbella.
Vives and Santonja will take on the winner of the match between the pair of Mervana Jugic-Salkic and Darija Jurak competing against the team of Ipek Senoglu and Klara Zakopalova in the opening round.
The other duo to qualify for the quarter-finals was Dinara Safina and Agnes Szavay. They made a major upset at Marbella by defeating the second seeded pair of Klaudia Jans and Alicja Rosolska of Poland in straight sets 6-1,
6-1, in just 51 minutes of play.
The Pole duo served with excellent accuracy but Safina and Szavay won 10 out of 12 first serve points in the to get the upper hand in the opener. Two serve breaks proved sufficient for the winning pair to close the opening
set at an assertive note of 6-1.
Jans and Rosolska slumped further in the next set and spilled out a number of unforced errors to gift three break points to their opponents. Safina and Szavay propelled to victory at 6-1 and book a spot in the quarter-finals.
They have to wait until the clash between the German team of Kristina Barrios and Jasmin Wohr and the Spanish wildcard pair of Lourdes Dominguez Lino and Laura Pous Tio is settled. The winner among the two teams will be facing Safina and Szavay in the quarter-final.
