Newcastle United managing director Derek Llambias is thrilled with the club’s new four-year sponsorship deal with Wonga.
There has been much controversy surrounding the lucrative deal, which comes as a major surprise to many since Newcastle had only just signed terms with Virgin as their chief sponsor. However, owner Mike Ashley and the club’s management brought the deal to
a premature end just a week ago.
The new deal with Wonga has been met with much approval from the Toon faithful and especially manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew.
About a year ago, Newcastle’s stadium had undergone a name change as it went from being St. James’ Park to The Sports Direct Arena, which is the club’s holding and parent company.
This was met with disapproval and disdain from the club’s fans and supporters, who saw it as a blot on the club’s history and tradition.
The new deal with Wonga restores the club to its former name, much to the delight of the fans, the players and the manager. Pardew had last week spoken about his excitement at being able to send his players out to St. James’ Park once again.
Managing director Derek Llambias is also very thrilled with the deal and believes that it will take the club forward. The sponsorship deal includes a jersey sponsorship along with investment from Wonga for the club’s youth set-up and first team training
facilities and infrastructure.
Speaking to the press, Llambias said:
"It's been a big fortnight - a very big fortnight. For me, it's all about stability.”
"To be able to get the coaching staff and the manager on side for eight-year deals, and then complete our sponsorship deal with Wonga, plus the stadium naming rights as part of that - it's a good two weeks, it's a very good two weeks for the club.”
"It's all about the season for us now. It's about getting the injuries cleared up - but that's Alan's http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684. Thank God I don't have to get too involved in that."
The club’s management believes the deal will benefit both parties, both financially and with regard to the club’s success on the pitch.
