However, on the other hand, there has been news developing on Hewitt to participate in January’s Kooyang Classic for the very first time. The event is a bid for the player to revamp his preparation for the Australian Open, which he has
been aiming to win for some time. The organizers of the tournament made the news just recently.
While Rafael Nadal will not likely be featuring in the tournament, there is no confirmation from Roger Frederer, who is slated to play in Dubai during the event’s launching. The open champion will be big miss in the event as Hewitt joins
a strong bench of tennis players on the roster for the exhibition. The Kooyang classic is scheduled to be held between the dates 12 – 15 of January in Melbourne.
Hewitt has a wide range of accomplishments to share in his accolades. He was the former number 1 tennis player and was a runner up in the 2005 Australian Open. The former 1st ranked U.S. Open and Wimbledon champion has reached
the round of 16, twice. And coming next year, there will be high expectations from the local faithful supporters that the man proves his mettle by winning the tournament.
The players to be confirmed for the event stretch to a decent amount. French players like Gael Monflis and Jo – Wilfried Tsonga will be in the tournament. In addition, there will be other top brass players highlighting the event roster.
Spaniard, Fernando Verdasco will be there along with Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny. The last player to be confirmed before Hewitt was Czech, Thomas Berdych. The organizers are still leaving the door open for Nadal. With a good showcase of
players in the group, there is a grand chance for the event to pick up wind in terms of sponsors and viewers.
The tournament director shared a few words on Hewitt, briefing the press on his views on the event being held, early next year:
"Nothing else has worked in relation to the Australian Open to Hewitt's ultimate satisfaction. I'm being told he wants to vary his preparation for the Australian Open and I'm drawing a conclusion that that has to be the reason. He still
thinks he's capable of winning the Australian Open and he wants to try something different”.
