Commenting about the willpower developing to fight back into the elite category of players, Hewitt said, "The motivation is still there. I've done so much hard work to put myself back in this sort of position, to compete against
the best guys out there, and hopefully I can do it over the next four or five weeks."
He further added, "In the last year I played some pretty good tennis once the foot started feeling better around the Olympics. I played exceptionally at the Olympics, I was a couple of points away from beating Djokovic on Centre
Court at Wimbledon and that gave me a lot of confidence for the rest of the year. It's more about getting matches back and getting that match toughness."
The 83rd ranked Aussie will resume professional tennis at the Brisbane International which will commence from 30th December, 2012. It will be interesting to witness if the former world number one can prove
his worth after a disappointing couple of years that were surrounded by niggling injuries especially the sore foot.
Hewitt struggled with a foot injury in 2011 and only registered a meagre record of 14-12. He couldn’t recover properly in the current season as well and ended up with 17-16 record. The opening tournament at Perth yielded two wins
for the Aussie star who failed to capture anything in Apia Sydney International. However, he managed to squeeze a fourth round appearance at the Australian Open but couldn’t carry the momentum forward; lost in the opening round of French Open, AEGON Championships
and Wimbledon.
Another little cameo at Newport helped him to reach the final where he was toppled by the top seed John Isner. Hewitt lasted three rounds at Olympics and US Open as well; reached the quarter-final of Stockholm and ended the season
with a second round exit at the Valencia Open.
