Lleyton Hewitt receives wildcard to play in Wimbledon – Tennis News
Former world number one, Lleyton Hewitt, received a wildcard to play in the upcoming Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon. The Aussie superstar ranked 205 in the world has seeing a severe slump in her game play this year.
He has just played 11 matches and has a dismal record of 5-6. So, apparently there are no signs of any change in the form of the 31-year-old tennis legend especially after the first round battering at the hands of the 208cm giant,
Ivo Karlovic, in Queen’s; the tournament that is played as the warm-up for the Grand Slam championship in Wimbledon.
Hewitt has never dropped out of the Top-200 players of the world ever since his distinguished career but sees that misery this week after a tight loss in the opening clash of the Roland Garros French Open against the Slovak tennis
professional, Blaz Kavcic.
He received wildcard for the two Grand Slams played this year. He did well in the Australian Open; reaching the fourth round and losing the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic. However, his performance in Paris clearly showed
that he is on the verge of saying goodbye to the professional most probably by the end of this year.
Aussie tennis icon also received a wildcard entry into the doubles category of the tournament. He will team up with his fellow wildcard entrant, Chris Guccione, and try to enjoy the last moments of his stupendous career.
Good news for the Aussie fans came when the Junior Wimbledon Champion, Luke Saville, and the 16-year-old girl, Ashleigh Barty, who is for sure the next generation tennis icon having impressed in the qualifiers of the Australian
Open by becoming the youngest tennis player in the history of sport to play the main round of the Grand Slam tournament.
Other wildcards were awarded to the likes of David Goffin who reached the quarter-finals of the French Open last month. German tennis icon, Tommy Haas, has also been chosen to award a wildcard along with Oliver Golding, Josh Goodall,
James Ward and Jamie Baker. So, it will be a good squad for Wimbledon this year; a mix of fresh guns and some old legends.
