Lleyton Hewitt says there would be less pressure on Andy Murray at Olympics – Tennis News
Former world number one, Lleyton Hewitt, thinks that Great Britain’s top player, Andy Murray, will have less pressure at the London Olympics, as he is not the only one who is going for a medal.
Although, Murray is the only British player who has a chance to win medal in the singles category but there are two teams who will be going for a medal in doubles.
Andy will join forces with his brother, Jamie Murray, for the doubles. The other team is of Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins, who are at the 12th position in the race to ATP World Tour Masters in London.
Hewitt was asked about the level of pressure Murray would have during the London Olympics in a recent interview. The Australian replied, "With him being one of a number of Brits going for a medal, it might take a tiny bit of pressure
off him that he normally has. He got upset early in Beijing in 2008 which was disappointing, and he has a tough first round, so he's got to be ready. It's a tough situation at home, but it's something he will be ready for."
Murray had faced severe disappointment at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, as he was surprised by Chinese Taipei’s Yen-Hsun Lu in the first round. His journey in the doubles event also ended shortly, as he and Jamie were beaten in the
second round.
The Brit will start his campaign against the world number 26, Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland, in the first round in London. In doubles, Murray brothers will take on the Austrian duo of Jurgen Melzer and Alexander Peya in the
opener.
Hewitt believes that if one takes into consideration the recent record, then the top three seeds i.e. Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Murray are favourites to win the title
The 2002 Wimbledon champion said, "At the moment, those three guys are on form and how they have been playing in the last three or four years means they are worthy favourites for the medals."
Murray would also be hoping to relieve the sorrow of losing Wimbledon final against Federer by winning Gold Medal at Olympics.
