Lleyton Hewitt to begin the 2013 season at Brisbane International – Tennis News
Former world number one, Lleyton Hewitt, has penned down a contract to play the Brisbane International tournament in 2013. He is ecstatic to start to the new season in a home event at Queensland and confessed his excitement in
the press conference following his contract announcement.
Hewitt stated, “I love playing the Australian tournaments and I have heard so many good things about the tournament. I am looking forward to kicking off the New Year there.” He further added, “It’s always a tough field [in Brisbane]
so there will be a lot of tough matches and I want to get as many tough matches as possible.” The former world number one was excited to be a part of such a fantastic squad that will feature in one of the most comforting arena around the globe. He said, “The
facilities are fantastic. I enjoy going up there to Queensland, normally the weather is extremely nice – especially at that time of year.”
World number 82, Hewitt, will turn 32 in the February next year but don’t have any plans of retirement at all. He is looking to extend his career as much as he can and still believes in himself to reach the elite ranked category
again. However, it might not be possible especially considering the stamina levels and number of tournaments that the Aussie superstar plays in the entire season. In 2012, the 82nd ranked Aussie contested just 33 matches and lost 16 of them.
However, Hewitt plans on improving the time spent at courts by reverting back to glory days. He is working extremely hard at the practice courts to stay in touch and is determined to prove his worth again. Everything will be crystal
clear when he will crash at the hard courts of Brisbane next season. Another player who has confirmed his participation in the tournament is the reigning US Open Champion, Andy Murray, who will begin his new season at Brisbane. It will be a tough task for
Hewitt to see off some big guns in the knock-out format. However, determination can lead one anywhere he wants and maybe it’s time for the 31-year-old Aussie to rise again.
