Llodra/Zimonjic dump Marach/Peya in the quarter-final round – Monte Carlo Rolex Masters 2012
Third seed French-Serbian tandem of Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic stood tall against the unseeded Austrians, Oliver Marach and Alexander Peya, in the doubles quarter-final battle of the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters. The Friday’s
match witnessed a dominating show from the third seeds, who took merely 47 minutes to wrap up the proceedings in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
Llodra and Zimonjic registered their 11th victory of the running ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) season in an assertive manner, booking a berth in the semi-final of this coveted clay-court event in Monte Carlo,
Monaco. They have already bagged a championship title this year and are bidding strongly for another one this time round.
The Austrians stunned the eighth seeded combination of Frantisek Cermak and Filip Polasek in the second round draw earlier this week but couldn’t replicate the similar feat on Friday. Marach and Peya were totally blown away by
the belligerence of the third seed duo and had no option but to submit in straight sets. They bagged merely three games in the entire matchup, providing an easy path to Llodra and Zimonjic to reach the round of four.
It was a completely one-sided affair, with the French and the Serbian dominating every minute of it. Llodra and Zimonjic had a phenomenal serve game in the match, belting 73 per cent of their first serve on target and winning 25
out of 30 points on it to claim victory. They crafted a total of five break chances in the match and cashed in four of them. On the other hand, Marach and Peya utterly failed to go even closer to a single break point in the entire contest, finishing off at
the losing end in a dismal manner.
Llodra and Zimonjic needs to go through the second seeded Belarusian-Canadian duo of Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor in their next encounter to earn a title shot in the final. Mirnyi and Nestor had a stiff battle with the tandem of
Viktor Troicki of Serbia and Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland in the quarter-final, eventually beating them up at 6-4, 7-5, to reach the round of four at the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters.
