Llodra/Zimonjic trash Lammer/Sadecky in first round – Davidoff Swiss Indoors 2011
The French Serbian pair of Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic eased past local wild card entrants, Michael Lammer and Alexander Sadecky, in straight sets at the Davidoff Swiss Indoors 2011, an ATP World Tour 500 series event taking
place at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland. They registered a 6-3, 7-6(10) success over their Swiss rivals to reach the last eight on Monday.
Ranked 2nd in the ATP World Tour Doubles rankings, Llodra and Zimonjic improved their win-loss record by 42-13 this season after tumbling over the wild card enterers. They required one hour and twenty-two minutes to
prevail over Lammer and Sadecky on their first face-to-face and after doing so, the seeds advanced into the quarter-finals at this indoor hard court event.
The high flying French Serbia tandem stormed into the opening set and wiped out opening three games in a row before their opponents could hold on. Later, they plucked in remaining serves without facing any breakpoint and sealed
the opener with a 6-3 win.
The pair also clobbered a higher first serve share of 61 percent as compared to the Swiss team’s 58 percent and registered a mind blowing 93 percent win on it. They also founded four breakpoint opportunities and converted one to
their advantage.
The successful combination of Llodra and Zimonjic carried their winning ways in the final set and after defending the only breakpoint faced, they bagged entire serves. Furthermore, the beaming pair founded three breakpoint opportunities
but failed to capitalise on any. Thus the set went to a tie-breaker where the higher ranked pair edged over the Swiss and clinched the set with a 7-6(10) victory.
Llodra and Zimonjic are currently in amazing form. They won eight out of their last nine matches including a title at China Open and a final berth at Shanghai Rolex Masters. They are bidding of their fourth career and the year-to-date
title in this event.
Next up for the seeds is the American duo of Mardy Fish and Andy Roddick.
The Americans, who lifted two doubles titles together, battled past Polish Czech tandem of Lukasz Kubot and Radek Stepanek in a three setter mouth watering match on another court.
Ranked 34th in the doubles rankings, Fish and Roddick took one hour and thirty-six minutes to overpower their opponents, ranked 113 places below them. They defended both breakpoints faced and capitalised on two out of
six breakpoint opportunities to their advantage to seal the deal with a 6-3, 6-7(5), 11-9 score line.
