The striker aims to play an important part in Spain’s European title defence.
The Athletic Bilbao striker who scored 29 goals in 53 appearances for his club could be Spain’s main attacking threat in front of the goal. Fernando Torres’ poor form and injury to their all time top scorer David Villa means that
Llorente could play a big part in the Iberian side’s European campaign.
The Basque striker, who has an impressive goal scoring record, helped his club reach the finals of the UEFA Europa League and the Spanish Cup. Impressive performances against the likes of Manchester United and other European giants
have put many European clubs on high alert.
Although the “Los Leones” striker as mentioned earlier has been linked with a move away from his current club but he dismissed all the speculation regarding his career. Llorente vows to stay put and has hinted that he is looking
extend his stay at San Mames.
"I am only focused on the national team, and when the Euros are over I will speak with Athletic about my renewal,” he further added.
Llorente’s aware of the attacking talents that his side posses, and knows he will have to translate his fine domestic goal scoring record at international level, in order to get the starting berth.
"I want to work hard to prove that I can be a starter, Alvaro Negredo moves well inside the area and he is a great finisher, while Torres opens up spaces, is very quick and is good in the air," he is quoted as saying in an interview.
The striker is positive of La Roja’s chances in the Euro 2012. He believes that the way Spain plays it is easier for them to create chances, as majority of their opponents adopt a defensive approach. Which means Del Bosque’s men
see plenty of the ball, and have a lot of space to work their magic.
“It will be good if other teams take a defensive approach, because we would have possession of the ball and that is what we like," he added.
In recent times a lot of teams have been able to frustrate Spain by letting them have all the possession and suffocate them when they try to get the ball in the oppositions half or final third.
La Roja will look to shake off the blow suffered by injuries to their star players by winning their Group C opener against Italy.
