Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Lloris-c16408 was pleased with his Premier League debut in the 2-0 victory against Aston Villa on Sunday.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international skipper was a deadline day high-profile signing for Tottenham, joining the club from French outfit Lyon.
Lloris had been identified as the long-term replacement for aging keeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Friedel-c7953 by manager Andre Villas-Boas. Friedel had already revealed his decision to quite top level professional football after this season, but at the rate the American was performing
this campaign, Lloris had to make do with a spot on the Spurs bench.
It was understood that the Frenchman was not happy with his role at the club, and already there were reports circulating that the player had a falling out with Villas-Boas.
Further fuel was added to the fire when France national team manager Didier Deschamps claimed Lloris was quite upset about not getting playing time with Tottenham.
The player however broke his silence during last month’s international break, saying that he had no problems with his teammates or his manager. He added that he was ready to fight for the number 1 goalkeeper jersey.
Lloris had only two starts to his name prior to the Villa game, which came in the Europa League. However, he finally got his Premier League start this past weekend. The player started in goal for the club, and was delighted to have kept a clean sheet.
Talking to the French press after the game, Lloris said:
"I am happy because we won. It was an important match because it was my first start in the Premier League. It has been quite a special month. It was everything all around me that had a bad role (to play).”
"For me, everything with Brad Freidel, the goalkeeping coach and even the manager, has gone off smoothly."
The player added that he will need more games under his belt if he is to adapt to the Premier League.
"Usually, you have a whole pre-season to get to know each other and play during friendlies. I immediately joined the club during the season, and I still need some matches to find my pace again and get to my best level.”
