Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Lloris-c16408 has said that he expects to start in goal for the club and is prepared to fight with current first choice keeper Brad Friedel for the spot.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international skipper arrived at White Hart Lane in a high profile deadline day signing. The player had been linked with a move to London, but a deal failed to materialize until the last day of the summer transfer window.
Lloris joined the likes of Moussa Dembele and Clint Dempsey as the three became last minute summer signings for the North London club.
The player was expected to replace http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Friedel-c7953, who had admitted two months ago that this will probably be his last year playing top level football. However, Friedel’s performances in goal for Tottenham hint otherwise, and the player has shown no signs
of slowing down.
The veteran American keeper has kept Lloris on the bench, and Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas said last week that there was no way Lloris will replace Freidel at the moment. The manager added that if Lloris wished to start for the team, he will have to prove
his worth.
These comments were understood to have upset Lloris, and already there were reports in the media that suggested there was a rift between player and manager. However, after this month’s international break, Lloris said that he is ready to fight for the number
1 jersey and will work hard for it.
The Frenchman was on the bench in Sunday’s game against Reading at the Madejski stadium but expects to start in goal against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775 in Spurs’ Europa League group game. Speaking to the press, he said:
"Things were very clear from the start on Sunday. I was at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tony-c35440 Park’s [the Tottenham goalkeeping coach] and Brad Friedel's disposal.”
"That pitch, that atmosphere, that gives you desire to play. Moreover we got three points that made us start our season. For me, it is a period to manage. Obviously I have desire. I came here to play.”
"So indeed, I am in an adaptation period, I've had very few training sessions, and there are players that I didn't know. But I am expecting time on the pitch."
