Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris claims that he feels ‘powerless’ with his role at the club, and has urged manager Andre Villas-Boas for more playing time.
The Frenchman was a late addition to the Spurs squad, arriving from Lyon in a dramatic and high profile deadline day move.
Tottenham had been looking for a long term first choice goalkeeper to replace the aging http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Friedel-c7953, who is currently 41 years old and nearing the end of his playing days.
However, Friedel surprised many with his stellar performances in front of goal, and his fitness levels seem to be growing with every passing game.
The player recently found his way back into the first team when he started against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Lloris-c16408 against
Aston Villa.
The Portuguese manager had ended Friedel’s astonishing record of 310 consecutive Premier League starts by doing so, and was vindicated as Tottenham cruised to a 2-0 victory and Lloris kept a clean sheet.
Many thought that this was the start of Lloris’ integration into the first team set up. However, the France captain found himself on the bench once again as Friedel started for Spurs.
Lloris claims that he has respect for everyone at the club, but is frustrated by his fringe role. Speaking to reporters, he said:
“It’s not my motivation to be on the bench. I do not worry but I feel powerless, I want to play and I think I was brought to Tottenham for that purpose. I’m ambitious and I want to be on the pitch.”
“I have respect for all the people at the club, but things are clear, I’m not here to live this situation any longer.”
The Frenchman’s role at the club has led many to question his prospects for the France national team. Lloris however remains upbeat as he skippered France in their 1-1 World Cup qualifier against Spain last week, and is confident that he remains first choice
for the country.
“I think selection for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 for my status as No.1,” he added.
