New Tottenham signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Lloris-c16408 has told the club that he will prove his worth and is prepared for a tough fight for the number 1 goalkeeper jersey.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international goalkeeper and skipper arrived at White Hart Lane in a high profile deadline day move. Lloris was one of three last minute signings made by Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas.
The player joined Fulham’s former midfield duo Moussa Dembele and Clint Dempsey as all three players became the last additions to the Spurs squad.
Lloris had long been linked with the North London club, and was understood to be highly rated by Villas-Boas. The Portuguese tactician considered Lloris to be Brad Friedel’s long term replacement, and it was expected that the Frenchman would be handed the
number 1 jersey.
However, this was not the case. Following Tottenham’s 1-1 draw against Norwich City, Villas-Boas had praised the performance of Friedel, who had made a series of impressive saves to keep Tottenham in the game.
The manager said that there was no way Friedel would be second choice keeper at the Lane, and that Lloris would have to prove his worth if he wishes to start in goal. These remarks had supposedly upset Lloris, and already there were reports of a falling
out between player and manager.
Adding fuel to the fire, France national team coach Didier Deschamps publicly said that Lloris did not appreciate his manager’s comments. It was understood that the player had not talked to Villas-Boas since his arrival, and was unhappy at the club.
However, the Lloris finally broke his silence after France’s WC qualifier this week. He said that he is not concerned with the situation and believes he has what it takes to fight for the number 1 jersey at Tottenham.
"Today, I have a status - I have the France captain's armband. It is a mark of trust and respect," he said.
"There are a lot of things for me to prove over there. I am going to strive for success.”
"I am going to discover another world, another championship and another mentality. I am going to get to know my new team-mates and staff, and I am going to work as well as I can."
