I can't find any other cd's that came with it other than one that had a sound decoder and a photo thing, but my camera isnt even being picked up by my computer when I hook it in.

Its a JVC, i dont know the Model but it says Model Number GR-D295U if that's the model. What do I to have it come up on my comp?

  1. The JVC GR-D295 is a miniDV tape based camcorder.

    Read your manual:

    http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/00...

USB will not work for video transfer from the miniDV tape. Turn to page 45 in the manual. The USB connection says it is for "Transferring still images"... while the DV port is for transferring video from the miniDV tape. I know it says some other stuff about transferring, but the ONLY way you will get video off the miniDV tape is using the DV port on the camcorder connected to a firewire400 port on your computer. You need a firewire port on your computer and a firewire cable. Firewire 400, IEEE1394a and i.Link are all the same thing. The DV/firewire cable did not come in the box (note that is says it is "optional").

If your computer does not have a firewire 400 port, installing one is typically easy - and they are cheap. So are the firewire cables.
