Lobbyist???

Question

Can anyone explain what lobbyist are? what they do? Who they are? I heard the term many times but can quite piece it together. Why does everyone hate lobbyist? Explain please-

lobbyists keep alcohol and tobacco legal while keeping marijuana illegal.

lobbyists keep health care system corrupt,

force children to take ritalin and other prescription pills,

create new diseases and the pills that cure them,

and have generally led to the occupation of Iraq for profit.

the thousands of registered lobbyists that operate in the nation's capital strive to influence, persuade and bribe the members of the u.s. congress and even top-level government officials in the variouis federal agencies.

billions are spent annually to sway politicians and administrators. unfortunately, there is no effect defense to protect us from their self-serving manipulations.

there ought to be a law, an easily enforcible law. no protection, no defense against the lobbyists. please note, there are far more lobbyists in washington dc than legislators. one estimate i read was 35,000 all told! that is an industry, not just an activity or vocation.

A lobbyist helps to influence or sway legislators, etc...politicians.  They sometimes wine and dine them.  The main goal is to get them to vote one way or another...the way their clients would like them to vote.

Many people saw they hate lobbyists, but not really.  Lobbyists are everywhere...they are just a bridge from a client to a politician.  Almost all unions, corporations, associations, etc have them.  Its not like only one group is represented.  Teachers, who are not known for their high pay, have unions will some of the strongest lobbying powers in the country.
