Question:

Local Area Connection A network cable is unplugged error?

I have been getting the error "Local area Connection: A network cable is unplugged" for a long time, and i noticed there is no Ethernet Cable plugged into my modem (An Intel(R) 537EP V9x DF PCI Modem) so i went out and bought a Dynex Cat6 Premium Network cable for Ethernet. Well i plugged one end in to the modem and the other into the back of my computer. The Ethernet light on my modem is still off, and it still gives me the "Network Cable Is Unplugged" error

is it just the cable or what?

any help is appreciated.

  1. IT possible to get this message when either one of the computers on your network is turned off, or a cable is not working properly, or the NIC is not working properly.

Since you have already installed a new Ethernet cable

that's is ruled out at the problem.

Next go to Device Manager and DISable the NIC

    Restart your computer

Go back to Device Manager and check that the NIC is ENabled.

    ^j^

  2. Do you have your driver installed for the modem and the ethernet port

  3. since their was no ethernet cable plugged in your PC for a long time already then the ethernet adapter might have disabled itself.

    here's what you should do,

first, check ur apdater, right click my computer then got to hardware / device manager. Youre Ethernet Adapter will be under network adapters, now if it has an xmark, then it means its disabled, right click on it and enable it, if it has a yellow question mark or exclamation point you'll have to reinstall the drivers or software, the port might be at the back of your CPU but the software is not their..

    second,

check if your modem has an ethernet light, of not then it could be the modem that's bad,c os you've already changed the ethernet cable and it's still not working

    third,

this is usually what works, do system restore, system restore will restore ur PC to an earlier time, remember a date when ur computer was not getting the network cable unplugged error. To do system restore, go to the start menu-- all programs--accessories--system tools- system restore. When system restore opens up, choose that option that says restore my computer to an earlier time and then click on next and then a calendar will appear. From that calendar choose a date that you're sure that your PC was not getting that error after that proceed with system restore and restart the PC.

:) one of these are the problems :)

  4. it seems that your ethernet cable damaged somewhere, this happens sometimes, just change the cable
