Local Dee Jay dominates first round of Ladbrokes Spring Festival Dogs
Despite not being the most preferred hound for opening heat of the Ladbrokes Spring Festival Dogs, Local Dee Jay displayed a thumping performance to stun his rivals at Monmore on Monday.
The 480 metres event started off at 14:47 GMT. Ahead of the beginning, Tonbrie Ji was declared 4-5 favourite. However, nobody was able to challenge Local Dee Jay, who dominated the show from pillar to post.
After coming out of the blue trap, the black dog stopped the clock in just 27.85 seconds. Fridays Shea finished second by four and a quarter lengths, whereas the third position went to Tonbrie Ji.
Trainer K. Findlay expressed enormous delight over his hound’s brilliant performance, hoping for an equally good show in Friday’s finale.
He said:
“I was surprised when he was picked up after leading last week, but then the time came out and it was the fastest of the night and the winner [Graigues Orchard] has gone in again today. I’d like a kennel full like Local Dee Jay. He’s so consistent and has
been brilliant for us – we’re hoping to move into our new kennels at the weekend so a win in Friday’s final would be a good send off from our current place.”
Heat 2 saw Droopys Betson exhibiting a thrilling performance to seal top slot. The blue dog set off the event from the red box, carrying the odds of 9 to 4.
An early pace followed by quick running on rails helped P. Curtin’s trainee to cross the wire in 28.23 seconds.
White Coat qualified to the finale by securing runner-up position by one and a half lengths. The 6-4 favourite, Longwood Fantasy, could only seize fourth position.
The third and final heat of festival was even more fascinating. After a close contest, Graigues Orchard managed to beat Roses Rockin by three quarters of a length. It was an expected result though, as both top position holders were holding the highest odds
respectively.
Following are the draws for Friday’s final:
1 Graigues Orchard, 2 Local Dee Jay, 3 Droopys Betson, 4 White Coat (m), 5 Roses Rockin (m), 6 Fridays Shea (m).
