Local Hero and Zarkandar to collide in the totepool.com Elite Hurdle
The Grade 2 totepool.com Elite Hurdle will see fierce rivalry between the two trainers, Paul Nicholls and Steve Gollings. The prior has planned for success by entering three of the best from his stable, while Steve Gollings has secured his chances by sending in, Local Hero. The race will be held at Wincanton race course over two miles on Saturday, 10th November. The total prize money for the race is £32,746.
Paul Nicholls is being represented by Zarkandar, Prospect Wells and Escort ‘Men, and out of the three, the most threatening for the five-year-old bay gelding, Local Hero, is Zarkandar, who has defeated Local Hero twice before. Both the defeats were part of the profile of the previous season, while the form of Lomitas’ five-year-old has improved drastically through the ten outings of the current season.
Out of the last three outings, two ended up with him visiting the winner’s enclosure.
The German bay gelding landed the Betfred “The Bonus King” Summer Hurdle Handicap (Listed Race) on 21st July, 2012 at Market Rasen over two miles and a furlong.
Teamed up with jockey, Paul Bohan, Local Hero, cornered Kian’s Delight by 1 ½ lengths.
The five-year-old out of, Lolli Pop, then made the most out of the chance that he got on 29th September, 2012 in the 32red.com Hurdle (Handicap) (Listed Race) at Market Rasen over two miles and a furlong.
Missing the race by nose’s mark was, Laudatory. This race too came into his partnership with jockey, Paul Bohan.
The arch rival, Zarkandar, has been pretty unsuccessful in the current season with only the seasonal debut bringing the winner’s prize money in for the stable.
Azamour’s five-year-old bay gelding won the Grade 3 Betfair Hurdle (Handicap) on 17th February, 2012 at Newbury over two miles and half a furlong.
Entered as the favourite and paired up with jockey, Ruby Walsh, the five-year-old Irish gelding won by 1 ¼ lengths, defeating, Get Me Out Of Here.
The success was the straight fourth in line, but also was the last as the last two outings did not match the going form of the remarkable gelding.
