I'm wondering how many miles away they can go to find "comps" --Also we live in the eugene/springfield area but my husband works about 200 miles away so hes there part of the time and here part of the time. The policy premium that I pay is based on the eugene area zipcode--the accident occured where he works. Can they use the local market where the accident occured?? Seems to me that they would have to use the zipcode thats on the insurance policy as this is where we live. I'm really stuck on this and cannot seem to find an answer anywhere--

Thanks

  1. They will usually try within 25-50 miles of your residence address.  If nothing (or not enough) is found there, they can expand their search.

  2. Usually it's within 200 miles.  But they subscribe to a service that does it by zip code.

You could have a garaging issue - assuming that he doesn't commute five hours too and from work each day, if he lives there and comes home on weekends, he should be using THAT location for a garaging address for the car.

But that 200 miles shouldn't make much difference, anyway.

You can get a pretty good idea of what the ACV of the car is worth, by going to www.kbb.com, and finding the private party sale value.
