Question:

Local councils on strike?

The local council workers are on stike asking for a 6% pay rise.

This made me think about the last pay rise I had. It was 2% and was 5 years ago. Whilst it would be nice to get a pay rise every year the reality is it just doesn't happen.

When was your last pay rise and how much was it.

  1. I get a cost of living pay rise every year. I'm retired and I get it with my pension.

  2. No pay rise for two years and the last one was barely in line with inflation.

Industrial action is on the cards.

If you don´t kick up about it nobody is going to give you a payrise out of a sense of nicety or decency. Lots of people are moaning about the unions, we´d all be on 2.50 an hour still if they didn´t exist.

  3. Local Councils on strike - can't say I noticed - so NO CHANGE there then when it comes to council service.

Last pay rise - this year - 2% - first one in three years

  4. i Dont agree with there strick as less than 50% voted to start with and then only 55% decided to stike it is not a true picture.

    I got 2.5% pay increase

  5. my husband works for a good company and gets a pay rise every year, this year it was 3%. but his payrise is awarded based on his attendance bonus, so it he is off sick even for one day not only does he lose his attendance bonus for the month as well as a days pay he also loses his payrise. it stops the idiots from taking the p!ss but my husband is one of the rare breeds of man that actually goes to work when is is ill even if he does moan about it all day long !  lol x

  6. 3 years ago - I run my own business and have ploughed more in that I've taken out - I have a dream but don't go asking for hand outs. If I don't like it I have a choice - I can get another job! Most council workers have it too easy - and just check you local council's books to see how much of your hard money goes into their pension funds! I doubt that I will have any pension worth anything like that of most council workers and will no doubt be working until I die!

  7. not had one for the last three years, cant see me getting one this year either

  8. Only Unison got 55% vote in favour of strike action, TGWU got 75%. Below inflation pay rises for over 10 years! We are not talking about rich people. For most council workers, the biggest pay rise was the introduction of the minimum wage!!!!!

  9. Well they've got to make sure that their end of salary pension is well worth the wait Ha ha!

My hubby pays into a private pension scheme and has been told to opt back into the state pension as his private one will not reach it's potential. His pay rise of 2% was swallowed up by the higher cost of living, the same as most other folks.

These council workers do not know what side their bread is buttered as their pension are guaranteed come h**l or high water.

  10. Got a pay rise for Being Good in April and will get cost of living in September - at the rate of inflation ;o)

  11. industry news-http://asianinmedia.org/

  12. Where I work it's still being negotiated but it isn't going to be anywhere near the rate of inflation. You just have to live with it and accept it and budget for an increase in fuel bills etc. If the council aren't collecting our rubbish do we get a refund in our council tax payments? WE pay their wages anyway and council tax goes up every year regardless. I've no sympathies.

  13. Haven't had one since 2004.

Since then i've had to take about 12 pay cuts.

  14. PAy rises in local governement have been below inflation for 10 years straight. This is a reduction in pay, not a pay rise!

People on here seem to be complaining because they havent had pay rises, but to be clear, private sector pay is rising well above 2.45% and is in line with CPI.
