Local councils snoop on emails and phone calls?

is this true ? can local councils spy on your emails and phone calls?.. what is Britain coming to when our privacy is being eroded bit by bit by nosey parkers and gossips.. spied on by our neigbours.. saw this on Yahoo news ...

Not just local councils but the Fire Service, the NHS, the Environment Agency and Uncle Tom Cobbley and all.  I can go along with the Police and the Security Services but not the aforementioned.  This Act was passed in 2000 and we no longer have the protection of any of these people seeking permission of a judge before they snoop on us.

The outdated mantra of if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear no longer applies.

We should all be aware of what is happening in this country and we should all be scared.   People have got to wake up and face this threat to our democracy and our freedom.  Unless you want to live in a Stalinist or n**i State I suggest that you vote this totalitarian government out.

I havn't heard that this is true and i'm not sure exactly how they'd go about gaining access to our inbox. As far as i'm aware only the police can do that and even then it's only to track down the sick peado's out there.

yes for many years , some with access to bank accounts and the information has not been kept safe , I agree wholeheartedly , communities have been MADE as in made , moulded by authority , the nosey parkers and gossips have good standing in the community . Horrid society , Britain with a glowing image . it's not only employees it's the community at large .

i assume you are talking about the UK....though other people seem to think you mean the USA.

They can, because of new laws introduced a few years ago. However, these laws were meant to make it easier to track suspected terrorists, not check whether someone was lying about where they lived to get their kids into a good school.

It is true, unfortunately, which, as you say, doesn't say anything posotive about the state of this country. Surely the council could use this money in better ways, like collecting the rubbish more than once a fortnight, or improving the local schools so people wouldn't have to lie about where they live.

I havn't heard of this either. However, I am aware of many situations where the police have been granted access to email and personal phone records. It goes much deeper than the average person probably thinks. And yes-what is America coming to...
