Question:

Local places to eat in Houston or Sugar Land

I've been watching food network Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.

Are there place in Houston or in the surrounding areas hopefully in the SW near Sugar Land that have stuff like this? I think the nearest I've seen so far was in Austin but that is on 6th street. Not exactly an easy place for me to park and take my kiddos due to the cramp quarters. But I will go when I visit in a couple months.

Sugar Land/Houston has a ton of BBQ places but in terms of local joints I haven't found that many. I'm just getting tired of eating the same chain food and I always try and support my local business so point me in the right direction. I'm open to any type of food as long as it's good.

  1. There is a great little Mexican food place on the corner of Hwy 90 & the Grand Parkway in New Territory called Carmelo's.I am pretty sure it is family owned, and they really appreciate any business. If you like Mexican food this place is great and affordable.

  2. First of all, ignore Guy Fieri. He wouldn't know real dining unless it was in San Francisco. Another self-promoting restaurant hack. If it is trendy and run by tie-dyed leftists, Guy is all over it. Putz.

There aren't a lot of real diners in Houston, but there are BBQ joints galore.

Go down 59 a bit farther to Richmond/Rosenberg, or head over to Wharton or East Bernard or even Needville. Try the Swinging Door in Richmond or Schulze's in Rosenberg, just as two examples.

EDIT: As Goldmember said in the third movie, "There is just no pleasing you, Mister Powers!" :)

  3. Head on down south of Sugar Land, towards Wharton and on the left side on Highway 59 is Hinze Bar-B-Que.  Wonderful pecan smoked meats, great sides, and mile high meranque on those lemon pies.  It's family owned.  They do; howver, have two newer locations.  One is in Sealy and one off Mason Road.  This is the PLACE, the local haunt!

I tell you how good it is---the food so good my husband and I stop if we're in the area and do take out for our next meal even if we've already eaten.
