Local position of the sun?

As the sun appears, looking eastward down a road at 8:45AM EST on March 23, 2008, will the sun will be higher or lower in the sky than it will be on July 31, 2008 at the same time?

  1. In march the sun will be considerably lower (your are at the equinox, when there is 12 hours of daylight).  In July the days are much longer - you are 1 month past the summer solstice) so the sun has been up for  a few hours longer.

    This answer is more true the farther away you are, north or south, from the equator.  At the equator all days are 12 hours light, 12 hours dark.
