Local runners to dominate the Summit of Speed meet on 7th July, 2012 at the Calder Casino and Racecourse
The Summit of Speed is probably the fastest racing day in the United States, and this year it is gaining a significant amount of interest. It will be held on 7th July, 2012, at the Calder Casino and Racecourse at Miami, Florida.
Since, the event was introduced in 2,000; the participants were shipped from distant areas to compete in this prestigious meet, but with so many local heroes dominating the meet, who needs runners from all parts of the country?
The meet only consists of one Grade 1 event, which is the $400,000 Princess Rooney Handicap run over a course of six furlongs.
The William A. Kaplan trained, Musical Romance, is dominating the market. Such is her dominance that, she managed to scare off competition from other parts of the country.
Only two runners, Nicole H and Bouquet Booth, are coming from outside of Florida to compete against the daughter of Concorde's Tune, out of mare Candlelightdinner.
The wonder mare  showed her full potential in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Churchill Downs on 4th November, 2011, where she rode under rider, Juan Leyva, and triumphed over, Switch, in 1 minute and 23.47 seconds over the distance of seven furlongs.
If the five-year-old brings her best game forth, she could win the Princess Rooney Handicap every day.
We’re not saying that the Princess Rooney Handicap does take place every day, but if it did, she’d ace the handicap division race with all her skill.
Of course, the other runners are not there to stand there and get beaten, Nicole H will be at the top of her game in this event, and with her form she will not be that easy to beat.
The Kentucky bred daughter of Mr. Greeley, out of mare Hot Chipotle, recently excelled in her half-mile work-out, which she completed in an impressive 48.78 seconds.
The other events in this meet consist of the Grade 2, $400,000 Smile Sprint Handicap - a “Win and You’re In” race for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint. The card also holds the Grade 3 $150,000 Carry Back for the males and the Grade 3 $150,000 Azalea, its filly counter-part.
