Local school nursery and private nursery?

My daughter is three and attends private nursery at the moment, she has been offered a nursery place at her local primary school, for 5 afternoons, I am having a dilemma over whether to leave her where she is, as she is doing really well there and loves going, or to send her to the local school nursery.. does anybody know if i would be allowed to 'mix and match' as in a 2afternoons at nursery and three afternoons at 'school' ? I think I want the best of both worlds.. but am I allowed to have it? my friend reckons this is what his daughter is going to be doing, but i have never heard of it before??

thanks x

  1. Awww hun, you still in a quandary??

Well, my best advice would be that you probably know deep down what you think is best. If you feel that her nursery will give her a better standard of care and education I would stick with it :)

  2. I don't think you would be able to mix sessions. In my experience, maintained school nurseries only offer either 5 mornings OR 5 afternoons. They claim all the funding so you cannot use any of it elsewhere.

Unless you are concerned about her peer groups for school, I would leave her where she is. Lots of the children at our nursery end up going to school together, and depending on the intake level, the school tries to put children together, so they know each other.

  3. Well it depends on which school you want to send her to...if you will be sending her to the local free school she will be better off there as she will get to now the kids...and vica versa...I send my 3 year old to a local private nursery and have sent her to the school too....but I am begining to think that the money is not worth it....some state schools are brilliant

  4. It would be more likely that you could do mornings at private nursery and afternoons at school, that would also be less unsetting that doing different things on different days for your daughter. School nursery will ease her into a school type routine, she would get to know the children she will be with in reception class and the building etc.
