Can anyone tell me please what the local tax is for, added to your hotel charge on arrival in France.?

And also how much it is per day or per week many thanks ,have a good weekend

  1. If you are talking about the taxe de séjour, it was created in 1910 to raise money to develop infrastructure for local tourism. The revenue from this tax is still used to promote local tourism.

    The tax ranges from 20 cents/day (campsites, cheaper hotels) to 1.50 €/day (luxury hotel) per person (aged 13 or more). On average it's often 0.50 €/day.

    If you are talking about V.A.T. (which is a state tax, not a local tax) it's 19.6% and is already included in the hotel price. In France the price shown always includes this tax.

  3. in france tax is always included in the price. the price you see is the price you get. for example we buy a t-shirt or w/e it says 20$ but when we go to the cash register theres always like 1.30  extra or sumthing like that. in france you see the price and thats the price you pay because the tax is already in the price
