Local teen finishes off Indian Open on promising note

Indian Aditi Ashok, who is just fourteen years old, stunned her rivals at the Hero Women’s Indian Open 2012 as she displayed a fiery form in all three rounds to finish tied for 8th
position.
Ashok was nowhere near the favourites before the Ladies European Tour (LET) tournament started last Friday at the DLF Golf & Country Club, New Delhi, India, but she amazed local fans after
making a much better start to her campaign.
The 14-year-old amateur got off to a fiery start that saw her shoot a 69 in the first round, grabbing a share of an early lead along with two other contenders.
It was an impressive performance in every sense. The field of the Hero Women’s Indian Open featured almost all the top-ranked stars, which meant Ashok had to push herself to the limits in
order to gain an early lead.
Although the young gun could not maintain her momentum in the second round on Saturday as she posted a 74, her confidence remained rock-solid, witnessing her make perfect strokes on some holes.
Ashok slipped to the 10th position at the end of the second round, but regained her position in the third and last round as she carded a 72.
She parred the first two holes on Sunday, but dented her confidence when she carded a bogey on the par-3 third hole. Ashok made a seemingly difficult birdie-putt on the 6th, regaining
her composure.
On the back nine, Ashok posted three birdies and two bogeys, brining her overall score to 215.
After posting a 69 in the first round, Ashok looked more confident than any other professional star. She said while speaking to the media that she did not let her nerve hurt her confidence
and this is what worked for her.
She went on to say that rigorous training has helped her fix most of the flaws in her long and short game. But she was keen to point out that it was her short game that mattered the most on
Friday.
“It’s given me more confidence on long putts and my general game overall. I think areas I’ve improved are my bunker, my pitching and my long lag putting,” Ashok said.
