We are going to New Orleans in a couple of weeks and would like to know of some great places to eat that we don't often hear about or aren't heavily advertised. Will some of you who live there or have been there please share?

  1. I LOVE N.O.L.A'S ITS THE BEST PLACE TO EAT if you can flip the bill

  2. I love K-Paul's, NOLA and Mazperro's for dinner, Johnny's Po-boys for lunch (plus just walking around and trying different things at different spots, like a bowl of gumbo or red beans and rice at the gumbo shop, barbecued shrimp from a restaurant at jackson square on the corner nearest the cathedral, raw oysters at Acme, brunch-court of two sisters, late night muffeletta and red beans and rice at court of two sisters on bourbon street side

  3. don't go down there. u gone get shot!

  4. Cafe DuMonde for beignets and coffee of course.  There are lots of chains like Margaritaville(not great).  The Palace Cafe on Canal street has great food and also a nice off the beaten path but on the street car line is Cannon's.  Have fun and ignore #2's comment.  Don't forget to go to Pat O'Briens and have a drink or just go to the piano bar or pation, lots of fun.

    Mothers rocks!

  8. Tujaques Restaurant (823 Decatur St, 504-525-8676) is very traditional and also has private and semi-private dining options

Cafe du Monde is in the French Quarter and you shouldn't miss having cafe au lait & beignets (www.cafedumonde.com). Another great coffee shop is the Croissant d'Or (at 615 Ursulines Street), which is open from 7:00am to 2:00pm and has food in addition to pastry.

The Palm Court restaurant is very nice, has moderate prices, and traditional live jazz starting at 8:00pm: 1204 Decatur Street, tel 504-525-0200 (reservations are important and they are not open every day). The Palm Court is closed from about July 25th to about September 25th each year.

All of the famous restaurants (Antoine's, Arnaud's, Brennan's, Commander's Palace, etc.) have reopened. The Pelican Club (on Exchange Alley in the FQ) is not as well known but is the same type experience. Reservations are a good idea, and probably essential on weekends.

Cafe Degas is a very French restaurant near City Park at 3127 Esplanade - which is not within walking distance of downtown (5 to 10 minutes by taxi). They are closed on Mondays & Tuesdays (504-945-5635).

  9. Broussard's, Dominique's, Rib Room and my favorite is Arnaud's and NOLA.

Fiorella's has great breakfast and really good Po'Boys. They have different specials everyday. They serve lunch and dinner. It's one of those "hole in the wall places" with great local home cooking type of food.

    Have fun!

  10. Ralph's on the Park at twilight is very nice.
